Description:

The AlphaMIG 231ms is a powerful solution to your welding needs.  It features both MIG and Stick welding capability and has many advanced features for both.  This is not your ordinary MIG welder.  It is a heavy-duty IGBT inverter based MIG and Stick welder backed up by it's three year parts and labor warranty.  While many cheap upstart inverter welders are flooding the market, AHP is committed to offering the most stable, well tested inverter welding platforms out there at a price point no one can match based off of features and performance.

The AlphaMIG 231ms is no exception to this policy. This welder is a true beast when it comes to power delivery.  This MIG is designed for heavy service applications and can stand up to daily industrial use with an industry leading 50% duty cycle at 230A.   This means the welder can  weld for sustained periods (5 minutes out of 10) at maximum output without a break.  Compare duty cycles to other name brand products and you'll see as low as 15% duty cycle at this maximum output level. This means that the AlphaMIG will fit  well in anything from a home garage or in a production facility manufacturing parts and pieces all day long.

The AlphaMIG 231ms was designed to be a game changer for those needing both portability and power. The dual voltage design allows the unit to be operated on either 120V or 240V input power (output will be reduced for 120V operations).  While it's compact, the unit supports the use of both 8" and 12" rolls of wire.  This is good for 10 to 44 lbs of wire.  It will also easily handle from .023" to .045" diameter solid steel or stainless wire with the included drive rolls.  This welder is also suitable for Gas-less Flux-Cored use  for .035" to .045" wire with the included Flux-Cored Drive rolls. The unit's heavy duty 4 drive roll system can feed wires flawlessly without slippage.  With wires .035" and .045", the drive roll system can easily feed solid wire up to 15 ft. with the optional length gun.

For those needing production welding of 1/8" and thicker aluminum, the unit can weld with either the stock 10 ft. MIG gun with optional polymer liner inserted and and optional U-groove drive rolls with .035 to .045" wire. It can be outfitted with an optional spool gun for feeding .030" and .035" wire.

The stick function of this welder allows almost any rod to be used including E6010.  The welder delivers a noticeably smooth and stable arc not found even in many stick welders. Advanced functions like hot start and arc force control allow the user to tailor the welding performance to the user's needs.

For steel, the unit can be used to weld from 24 gauge up to 5/16"  in single pass (a best practice, practical recommendation).  It's perfect for multi-pass welding with a practical limit of up to 1/2".

For Aluminum, expect practical welding capability from 1/8" up to 1/4" single pass, with practical capability up to 3/8" multi-pass.

Features:

MIG:

Spot Timer: For tacking up and welding sheet metal.

Stitch Timer: For cycling Spot Timer on and off repeatedly for stitching effect on long seams.

Burn Back Timer:  Used to auto-trim wire stick out immediately after weld has ceased.

Automatic Pre-Post Flow and OFF setting: To improve weld starts and stops by providing gas coverage slightly before the weld starts and after the weld ends. OFF setting if not required.

Cold Wire Feed: To allow user to change wire without having to depress the trigger and waste gas.

Test Gas Flow: To allow user to set gas flow rate without having to depress trigger and waste wire.

Inductance: Allows user to adjust crispness vs. fluidity of the weld.

Spool Gun Function: To allow use with optional spool gun.

Flux-Cored Function: To allow use with self-shielded (gasless) Flux-Cored wire.

Rear Cooler Plug: To allow use of optional water cooled gun for heavy, continual use. To be used with AHP cooler only.

Stick:

E6010: Allows user to select special performance for E6010 and other cellulose based fluxed rods.

Standard: Allow use with almost all other types of welding rods besides cellulose based fluxed rods.

Hot Start Timer: Allows the user to control how long the hot start stays activated during arc striking.

Hot Start Intensity: Allows user to add extra amperage (via a percentage over set amperage) during arc striking to prevent cold lap and porosity at the start of the weld. Maximum amount is subject to total Amperage available.

Arc Force: Allows user to adjust the crispness versus fluidity of the weld puddle.

Generator Requirements/Additional Information:

The AlphaMIG 231ms is designed for portable use.  However, several requirements must be kept in order for warranty to be maintained while operating on generator power.

1. The generator must be rated for clean power. This means the unit must be rated by its manufacturer to produce 5% or less Total Harmonic Disturbance (THD).

2. The generator must be rated for 9500 watts or greater output (true surge rating)

3. The generator must be kept on full idle while in use. Do not use in eco mode.

4. Do not shut the generator off while this unit is powered up.

5. Allow generator to warm up and run at full idle before turning the welder on.

Min/Max Settings:

For steel, the unit can be used to weld from 24 gauge up to 5/16"  in single pass (a best practice, practical recommendation).  It's perfect for multi-pass welding with a practical limit of up to 1/2".

For Aluminum, expect practical welding capability from 1/8" up to 1/4" single pass, with practical capability up to 3/8" multi-pass.

For Stick, this unit can weld with 1/16" electrode to 5/32" electrodes, depending upon the electrode manufacturer's Amperage range recommendations.
